On The Right Track

Wildlife Trust of India (WTI)

2007   |   16mins 47secs

Eighteen Asian elephants were killed between 1987 and 2001 in accidents with trains on a 14 km railway line within the Rajaji National Park, Uttarakhand. A Rapid Action Project under the Wildlife Trust of India suggested solutions that ultimately led to an end to elephant deaths on the track since 2001. A model for other protected areas to emulate.
