Azuram Community Reserve Forest

The Habitats Trust | Dusty Foot Production

2024  |  5 mins 07 secs

“Our interventions in the forest destroy the natural habitat of the wild.”

In Tamenglong District, Manipur, the villagers of Azuram took a stand to protect their environment. Among other measures, ten volunteers patrol the Azure Village Community Forest without remuneration, working tirelessly to prevent timber logging and hunting, and safeguard their natural heritage. After three years of dedicated campaigning, their efforts led to the creation of a community reserve forest in 2017, officially recognised by the government of Manipur. Today, the community remains committed to preserving their rich biodiversity, ensuring a vibrant and sustainable future for generations to come.

This film is part of ‘Stories from the Ground: Northeast India,’ a film series by The Habitats Trust and Dusty Foot Production, featuring 50 shorts by local filmmakers that celebrate the culture, traditions, and biodiversity of the region.
