Community Seed Bank

The Habitats Trust | Dusty Foot Production

2024  |  4 mins 45 secs

In Kohima, an initiative by North East Network (NEN) and SEWA Union Nagaland called Sewa Agewan has transformed seed banks into more than just storage spaces—they are guardians of biodiversity and traditional knowledge. With a unique seed lending system, the communities of Kohima exchange and grow seeds, cultivating not only crops but a deep culture of learning and preservation. By documenting indigenous seeds in their local dialects, these banks serve as hubs for growth and heritage, empowering sustainable farming and passing down the knowledge of indigenous seeds to future generations.

This film is part of ‘Stories from the Ground: Northeast India,’ a film series by The Habitats Trust and Dusty Foot Production, featuring 50 shorts by local filmmakers that celebrate the culture, traditions, and biodiversity of the region.
