Falcon Capital of the World

The Habitats Trust | Dusty Foot Production

2024  |  5 mins 58 secs

In Nagaland, the Falcon Capital of the World, October brings a spectacular gathering. Over one million Amur Falcons travel 22,000 km from northern China to Africa for their annual migration. They make a vital pitstop at the Doyang Reservoir to roost and feast on insects, playing a crucial role in maintaining the local ecosystem. For a month, these incredible birds turn Nagaland into a bird watcher's paradise.

Nagaland, specifically the Doyang Valley, has earned the title ‘Falcon Capital of the World’ because of the Amur Falcons gathering during their annual migration. Each autumn, millions of these falcons stop in Nagaland on their journey from Siberia and China to southern Africa, creating one of the largest and most inspiring raptor gatherings in the world.

This film is part of ‘Stories from the Ground: Northeast India,’ a film series by The Habitats Trust and Dusty Foot Production, featuring 50 shorts by local filmmakers that celebrate the culture, traditions, and biodiversity of the region.
