Sisnay Paa - The Beautiful Cascade Frog of Sikkim

2024 | 3 mins 32 secs
The Amolops formosus, locally known as Sisnay Paa in Sikkim, is a species of frog that becomes active during the rainy season, when it can be spotted near water bodies in search of a mate. For the rest of the year, they remain hidden beneath rocks, making the rainy season the only time they are visible. Unfortunately, their population is in decline due to hunting, which has significant ecological implications. These cascade frogs play a crucial role as indicators of stream health, making their conservation vital for monitoring and maintaining the balance of aquatic ecosystems.
This film is part of ‘Stories from the Ground: Northeast India,’ a film series by The Habitats Trust and Dusty Foot Production, featuring 50 shorts by local filmmakers that celebrate the culture, traditions, and biodiversity of the region.
