The Chinese Pangolin: The Fight for Survival in Manipur
The Habitats Trust | Dusty Foot Production
2024 | 5 mins 51 secs
Manipur’s Kakcheng Chabi, the endangered Chinese Pangolin, is rapidly declining due to hunting for its scales, prized for supposed medicinal benefits, and its consumption as a delicacy. Despite ongoing conservation efforts, there is a pressing need for awareness campaigns to protect this species. Communities like the Azuram Community Reserve and Dailong Biodiversity Heritage are actively working to rescue, protect, and release pangolins back into their natural habitats.
This film is part of ‘Stories from the Ground: Northeast India,’ a film series by The Habitats Trust and Dusty Foot Production, featuring 50 shorts by local filmmakers that celebrate the culture, traditions, and biodiversity of the region.
