Media Advocacy Fellowship
Society for Rural Urban and Tribal Initiative (SRUTI), a not-for-profit organisation, works towards social change at the grassroots across rural and urban India. In 2011, DFP was engaged to facilitate their Media Advocacy Fellowship for a series of short films that cover some of the most pressing issues of justice, rights and dignity confronting marginalized communities. The idea was to advocate social issues beyond borders, language and geographical or social positioning.
DFP was involved in the selection and mentorship of the fellows, filmmaking workshop, monitoring shoots and edits, and the production of a full length documentary film. The Fellowship application call sent across various media drew an entry of nearly 40 applications from which 8 finalists were selected. The workshop was designed to train them to research, script, document and put together the series of films. The final films were broadcast on the internet, screened in villages and towns, and used as advocacy tools at policy making forums, and shared with support partner organizations.
