Mainstreaming Conservation and Sustainable Use of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants in Chhattisgarh
The Dusty Foot team developed the communication strategy and tools for the GEF-GoI- UNDP project titled "Mainstreaming Conservation and Sustainable Use of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants in Chhattisgarh”. Nine small forest villages in three agro-climatic zones were identified for the development and application of the strategy and tools across a diverse range of stakeholders.
Numerous communication tools were developed over a period of one year which were initially field tested before dissemination within the larger community. These included participatory theater and art workshops, making of films on medicinal plants and designing of an interactive website for detailed documentation of the project. A special project mascot, Jaddu Baddu was created and it's puppet form gained immense popularity with the local communities. The Theater Group also performed at COP 11. A series of short films were made for the State Medicinal Plant Board, Chhattisgarh to document the healing powers of various medicinal plants.
