DFP designs and implements communication strategies and tools across a diverse range of issues

The main aim behind the tools developed for the MPCA project was to make them participatory and base them on imparting knowledge, capacity and skill building, and to create platforms for dialogue within and between the stakeholders.

DFP designed and developed a multimedia MPCA website to connect voices from the ground to other stakeholders and policy makers. Besides being used for information, the site could be used by the grassroot workers to upload their thoughts, ideas and concerns. The website also showcased the various other tools used to disseminate information and activities on MAPs, stakeholders and MPCAs of Chattisgarh.

The four month SECURE Himalaya Youth Video Fellowship was piloted in partnership with UNDP and Uttarakhand Forest Department. It involved one month residential training on photo-video documentation and editing followed by a three month internship. A group of six young and enthusiastic fellows were selected from across the three project landscapes. Post training, the video documentation work done by all the fellows was compiled to make eight films which were launched on the occasion of the International Mountain Day, followed by screenings at the SECURE Himalaya Community Festival. The films are expected to be used across mediums to engage stakeholders for initiating dialogue, as well as spreading awareness at the national and/or international stage.

Theater Workshop

DFP engaged the popular theatre group IPTA (Raigarh) to conduct a 15 day workshop with school children, women and men from the villages. A play ‘Bijaroo ke Kartoot’ evolved through the workshop and dealt with issues related to conservation, over-harvesting, trade etc of medicinal plants. The group performed to an audience of diverse stakeholders across villages. The Theater Group also went on to perform at multiple events, including at the COP 2012 conference in Hyderabad.

A ten day participatory Puppetry Workshop was organised in collaboration with local puppeteers in villages of Chhattisgarh. The focus was on designing puppets to disseminate information on laws pertaining to MAPs. The participants, especially young children, were exposed to the art of making puppets and muppets and using them to perform songs and short skits.

Calendar Competition

The key idea behind the competition was to design a calendar that imparts information on medicinal plants and the need to conserve them. A national level design competition for wall and desk calendars was announced for students from various schools and colleges using ads and social media. The winning entry was printed for distribution at the COP 11 conference on Biological Diversity in Hyderabad in 2012.
